The Deadly Syndrome plays the Rose Bowl

Saturday night by brother Will’s band (also including Chris Richard, Michael Hughes and Jesse Hoy) took the stage at the LA Street Food Fest at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Usually before a show there isn’t much to do besides have a drink in a dark bar while listening to some way-too-loud house music. But for the two hours before they played last night, we got to run around standing in line for all sorts of unusual street food.. such as dim sum dumplings that turned out to be filled with cheeseburger-and-onions filling – that tasted EXACTLY like a McDonald’s cheeseburger..yuck! But there was some really good stuff too, a fish taco and Brazilian chicken-and-cream-cheese croquettes were high on our enjoyable list.

Then the band came on and most of the people were still standing in ever-longer lines for things. We had already had our fill so we got to sit on the astroturf and enjoy. I took a ton of pictures since it was still daylight out, and here are a few.

How my brother went from lessons at Jensen's Guitar in Solvang to a stage at the Rose Bowl is still somewhat of a mystery to me, but I'm so proud of him!

On the jumbotron!

Looking back at the crowd.

My mom, dad, and Abigail. Yes, my dad is wearing a Singha beer visor.

Awesome.

Last song.. a revamped ending to Eucalyptus.

Tourism primer

Cartwheeler at work on left.

We’re doing a cool new feature on Edhat that will lead to a complete tourism primer for Santa Barbara visitors. Check out my first piece on the court house http://www.edhat.com/site/tidbit.cfm?nid=35253¬†at link

One of the cooler things about going to do this piece was when the tour guide didn’t show up .. instead I got to observe the artistic preservationists at work on the Mural Room. See photos of that: http://www.edhat.com/site/tidbit.cfm?nid=35248

The spotlights they use to light up the section being worked on are very helpful for the sans flash photographer.

This lady was up on a scaffolding and all I could see was her hand and her feet. Pretty cool.

Fans of all sorts

This week has been fan week. Fans of the World Cup and fans of Twilight have been among the most popular pics I’ve posted on Edhat.

Today the Dutch and Brazilian soccer fans were up early for the World Cup quarterfinal game. Afterward, there were happy Netherlands fans in the street.

Check out those awesome orange clogs!

These two were genuinely joyful. It was cool to see.

Earlier in the week, also at the Arlington, there were big groups of tweens waiting for Twlight.

No, not for the sun to go down.. it was the third movie in the Twilight series. Remember when I wrote about going to Forks, Washington last summer?

Some waited 24 hours plus to get in to the show.

These guys were way outnumbered by young ladies.

Check out the tent adorned with posters in the background.
