A page a day

Life on California's beautiful Central Coast

A non-travel note regarding MJ’s death

Yesterday’s death of music star Michael Jackson made me think about the time I was one of the first reporters sitting outside Neverland Ranch. It was the day the ranch was raided by the county Sheriff’s Department in investigation of alleged sex crimes. He was ultimately found not guilty in a Santa Maria courtroom.

One of our reporters got a  tip about the raid, I drove up there and watched cop cars drive in and out. By the end of the day I was sitting there with 75 news outlets from around the world. We interviewed fans and were flipped off by parents picking up their children at the Family School, which had received donations from the pop star. One of them actually tried to hit us with her car, which was not too cool. (I wish I was making that up, but I’m not.)

Yesterday dad went out to the ranch and there were some fans there, even though Michael Jackson doesn’t own it anymore – the father of my high school classmate T.J. Barrack does. LINK

That’s a cool memory. You would scoop the world and be there first 🙂 I can’t believe you know the person who purchased the ranch! Did he keep it as an amusement park?
