A page a day

Life on California's beautiful Central Coast

Frequently asked questions

OK, it’s a slow travel day. In fact, it’s a no travel day. Did you know that it is virtually impossible to get a hotel in Boulder, Colorado in the summertime? Well, I didn’t. But now I do.

Just for fun, here’s a rundown on the FAQ we’ve gotten from folks at home and on the road so far.

Are you having fun?

Absolutely! This trip is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.

Have you found somewhere new to live yet?

Nope, no new plates yet.

Nope, no new plates yet.

You can get mail?

Yes, we’re getting general delivery mail sent to U.S. Post Offices when needed. It has worked out pretty well so far.

What kind of gas mileage does the van get?

Not so good. On the last stretch through the Rockies, we got less than 15 miles per gallon because there were some huge up and down stretches.

How do you take a shower?

There’s a shower in the van. When we stay at a private campground there are showers there. When we’re at a public park I usually stick my head under the water faucet and wash my hair, even though you’re not supposed to do that.

Can we see a photo of that?

Ha. No.

What’s the most random thing you’ve seen?

This “Inspired You” tour van of Ellie Drake’s was pretty weird and scary:

Inspired to run the other way is more like it.

What do you miss from home?

The ocean, friends and family, and Trader Joe’s wine!

Are you finding local Farmer’s Markets to go to?

Usually we miss them by a couple days, which is a bummer. We ran into one in Durango and one in Gunnison, CO. They do seem prevalent in most of the towns we’ve been to.

If you have other questions, please ask and we’ll answer!
