In 1879, Leadville “boasted 120 saloons, 59 boardinghouses, 3 daily newspapers, 2 weekly newspapers, 118 gambling houses and private card rooms, 36 houses of prostitution, and 147 lawyers,” according to one account.

Today, there is a fantastic bakery/coffeehouse called Proven Grounds, about a dozen bars, numerous kitschy tourist shops, several restaurants, a world famous 100 mile trail race, and real estate market with homes for sale between $100,000 and $300,000.
