National Park I’d never heard of

Black Canyon of the Gunnison looks like this:

The geology is forbidding. In geologic time, the canyon is actually only 2 million years young.

We camped last night up at Ponderosa which is 7 miles up a dirt road from Blue Mesa, a huge reservoir of Gunnison River water along Highway 50. We’re headed in the general direction of Leadville, perhaps to get there today, perhaps tomorrow if we find somewhere we want to stop along the way.
